2019 has been a busy year in the PDA community.
From awards being won to new innovations in packaging processes, our packaging distributors have been busy making waves this year in the packaging industry. We have seen philanthropic contributions, in addition to welcoming new members to our community. Celebrating these successes and acknowledging our growth along the way is important to us at PDA. Keep reading for a recap on the milestones that have happened in our community this year.
Kicking off the year with the PDA Annual Planning Meeting
Each January, the members and suppliers who are part of PDA come together to plan for a successful year ahead. The meeting kicked off on Sunday with a welcome reception where our attendees met to celebrate the start of the new year and start conversations about the progress to come. From the chatter of the crowd, it was evident that the group is excited for the meeting ahead, and the innovation that is coming to packaging this year.
Badger Paperboard announces official opening in Dallas, Texas
Badger Paperboard, a custom paperboard converter specializing in packaging and shipping materials, has announced the opening of a new, state-of-the-art facility near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
“We’re proud to be the nation’s leading supplier of paperboard products,” said Mark Smiley, President of Badger Paperboard. “This expansion into Texas has helped us broaden our reach and better serve our customers in the heart of the country.”

Central Packaging, a PDA member, is acquired by a top US industrial packaging company
B2B Industrial Packaging announced a merger with Central Packaging , a supplier of packaging equipment and supplies headquartered in Lenexa, Kan. This is the 7th major merger/acquisition in 10 years for B2B Industrial Packaging.
B2B Industrial Packaging President Bill Drake said, “Central Packaging owners Mike and Linda Pasley have been friends for many years as members of Packaging Distributors of America. Central Packaging has earned their strong reputation for outstanding client service and their client focused sales team really knows their local markets. There is no doubt in my mind that Central Packaging’s employees and clients will benefit from this merger.”
Crownhill Packaging Awarded PAC Worldwide Pinnacle Award
Multi-national distributor Crownhill Packaging has added to its list of awards by receiving the PAC Worldwide Pinnacle Award on March 11/2019.
This is the second Worldwide Pinnacle Award given out by PAC, and both times it was given to a PDA member, with Flexpak being given the first ever award in 2017. The award is the highest distinction bestowed by PAC Worldwide and displays the solid partnership between PAC and one of its many business partners.
Brian Kellen, President of Flexpak, had this to say about their award “It was a great honor when we received the award, especially with it being the inaugural year, it was very unexpected but showed a lot of character on the part of PAC Worldwide. We have a great relationship with Crownhill Packaging, and it’s well-deserved for them to receive it this time.”
Heritage Paper joins Amazon’s APASS Packaging Supplier Network
Heritage Paper is proud to announce we are now qualified to help you meet Amazon’s Frustration-Free Packaging certifications.
Amazon is offering financial incentives on packages of certain dimensions to meet Tier 1 or Tier 2 levels by August 1. After that date, significant surcharges will be imposed.
PDA Members and Suppliers met for the Annual Meeting in May
Packaging Distributors of America’s 13th annual meeting took place at the Ritz Carlton in Dove Mountain, Marana, AZ, on Sunday May 19th to Wednesday May 22nd. Our member distributors and preferred suppliers joined together to review the year to date progress, welcome new members and suppliers, raise money for charity, and celebrate achievements.
The Welcome Reception kicked off on Sunday evening, as the community gathered for a hand-crafted meal and special announcements from PDA president, George Strobel. George introduced our visitors this year from Strickland Paper as well as gave an official PDA welcome to new Member Morrisette!
