In 2019 the packaging industry saw many advancements and improvements, and PDA was no exception. Our members and suppliers went above and beyond to contribute to the industry, to build within their companies and communities, and to contribute to PDA. Here are 10 of the top articles from the PDA community from 2019.
PDA Champions Meeting
A PDA Champions meeting was recently held in Atlanta with most Member companies attending. The session included sharing company core competencies, a revised Champion role with greater emphasis on Multi Location opportunities, best practices, discussion on current trends and issues as well as general networking. Robin Goheen and Amy Packer “championed” the session and led the team in role plays and some fun activities.
Morrisette Supplier Event
The Morrisette and PDA Supplier Event provided an opportunity for twenty four PDA Suppliers to sit down and meet with 80+ of Morrisette’s sales and management team. This round robin style event gave the suppliers ten minutes with each Morrisette group to give a quick overview of their capabilities and explain what makes them unique. The format was fast-paced and informative.
Pacific Packaging Acquires Packaging Products Corporation
Pacific Packaging Products, Inc., an international provider of packaging products, equipment, automation and supply chain management services today announced it has merged with Packaging Products Corporation (PPC), a cold chain packaging leader serving the seafood, medical and perishable food industries.
The Power of PDA: Golden West Packaging + PAC Strapping Products
Golden West Packaging was looking for a strapping solutions company that would provide the type of service and attention that exists when you work with a premier packaging partner. As a PDA member, Golden West Packaging has the opportunity to send their executives to the annual PDA meetings. The PDA annual meetings are held to bring the community together to collaborate. This includes member and supplier meetings, where companies like Golden West Packaging have individual meetings with premier packaging suppliers to discover new opportunities across the supply chain.
PDA Holds First Profitability Summit
On June 25, 23 PDA Members representing 14 companies attended the PDA-sponsored Profitability Summit. It was a day of sharing insights and ideas on how to improve the bottom line. Each Member came armed with ways profitability could be improved in various operational disciplines, i.e. Sales, Customer Service, Operations, Finance, to name a few. Most attendees felt the session was so informative it could have lasted another day!
PDA Welcomes Strickland and Morrisette as New Members

Heritage Paper joins Amazon APASS Packaging Supplier Network
Heritage Paper is proud to announce we are now qualified to help you meet Amazon’s Frustration-Free Packaging certifications. Amazon is offering financial incentives on packages of certain dimensions to meet Tier 1 or Tier 2 levels by August 1. After that date, significant surcharges will be imposed.
Crownhill Packaging Awarded PAC Worldwide Pinnacle Award
Multi-national distributor Crownhill Packaging has added to its list of awards by receiving the PAC Worldwide Pinnacle Award on March 11/2019. This is the second Worldwide Pinnacle Award given out by PAC, and both times it was given to a PDA member, with Flexpak being given the first ever award in 2017. The award is the highest distinction bestowed by PAC Worldwide and displays the solid partnership between PAC and one of its many business partners.
B2B Industrial Acquires Central Packaging
B2B Industrial Packaging announced a merger with Central Packaging , a supplier of packaging equipment and supplies headquartered in Lenexa, Kan. This is the 7th major merger/acquisition in 10 years for B2B Industrial Packaging. B2B Industrial Packaging President Bill Drake said, “Central Packaging owners Mike and Linda Pasley have been friends for many years as members of Packaging Distributors of America. Central Packaging has earned their strong reputation for outstanding client service and their client focused sales team really knows their local markets. There is no doubt in my mind that Central Packaging’s employees and clients will benefit from this merger.”
Badger Paperboard Opens in Dallas
Badger Paperboard, a custom paperboard converter specializing in packaging and shipping materials, has announced the opening of a new, state-of-the-art facility near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. “We’re proud to be the nation’s leading supplier of paperboard products,” said Mark Smiley, President of Badger Paperboard. “This expansion into Texas has helped us broaden our reach and better serve our customers in the heart of the country.”
