PDA’s first Strategy Meeting of it’s kind took place from January 10-12, 2021 in Sarasota, Florida.
Each January, the Members and Suppliers who are part of PDA come together to plan for a successful year ahead. The meetings typically host over 80 people in the PDA community. This year looked slightly different. To ensure everyone’s safety, PDA had a modified meeting with approximately 20 individuals within PDA. Greeted with masks and hand sanitizer, each person came with a different skill set and background but with a shared goal to enhance the PDA strategy as we move forward through 2021. The outcome of this strategy session will be presented to the community-at-large in the coming weeks.
The meeting started on Sunday with a welcome reception where our attendees met to celebrate the start of the new year and start conversations about the progress to come. From the chatter of the crowd, it was evident that the group is excited for the meeting ahead, and the innovation that is coming to packaging this year.
Monday morning kicked off with a review of where PDA is today and objectives for the strategy session.
PDA President, George Strobel officially welcomed the group and shared insights about the member and supplier updates, and other exciting news for PDA. After George’s introduction, each member of the small group had an opportunity to introduce themself and what they hope to achieve in the meeting.
After the introduction period was completed, the group jumped into the strategy planning. Barb Dammann, Director of Client Services for PDA, led the strategy plan and gave a road map of how the group would be working together to define new goals, vision statements, and initiatives for PDA to implement in the coming year and the years to follow.
As Nick Mihacevich, PDA board member put it, “PDA is about the people. It was formed for the people in the industry to have a common place for collaboration.”
To add to that, Jim Dawson, a newer PDA member from Morrisette Packaging, was excited for the opportunity to bring younger voices from Morrisette to network in the PDA community and learn from seasoned packaging experts.
The strategy session continued into the afternoon with small focus groups working on specialized areas of the strategy planning. The day concluded on Monday evening as the group was treated to a dinner reception at Lido Key. There was a common sense of enthusiasm for the planning that was completed and the results to come.
The group met again on Tuesday to bring the strategy planning to life with applicable steps to move forward.
It was clear by the afternoon on Tuesday that everyone in the PDA community is excited about the year ahead and proud to be part of PDA. Overall, the PDA strategy event was a huge success and a great way to start the 2021 year.
