At this year’s annual meeting, over 150 members of the PDA community came together to identify new business opportunities and celebrate PDA.
Packaging Distributors of America’s 16th annual meeting took place at Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina, on Sunday June 26th through Thursday June 30th. The venue, a perfect setting for our Members and Suppliers to network, was appreciated by all as new connections were formed and business got done! Everyone enjoyed celebrating PDA while raising money for charity and honoring achievements.
The Welcome Reception kicked off on Sunday evening, as the community gathered for a hand-crafted meal and special announcements from PDA President, George Strobel. George introduced visitors, welcomed everyone to Palmetto Bluff, and thanked the event sponsors: Base Plastics, AirWave, Berry Global, Combi, PAC Strapping Solutions, VersaPak, Pregis, and IPG.
Every year PDA has a raffle and drawing to benefit a local charity. Every year PDA has a raffle drawing to benefit a local charity or a charity in need. The raffle winners received gift cards and other prizes but the real prize is the chance to give back. The money raised from this year’s raffle went to Bluffton Self Help. We raised $7,500 and PDA matched that for a total donation of $15,000. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
For more than 30 years, Bluffton Self Help has been providing basic needs and financial support to our community. And though our roots are in serving the generationally impoverished, our future is in supporting our families who are economically at-risk. With expanding services that include educational programming and leadership, we serve as advocates for those in need throughout our local community and beyond. With direct access to necessary resources, a deep understanding of our community needs, and significant relationships to create change, we provide those in need with a pathway toward self-sufficiency.
On Monday, the general session opened with words from George Strobel and Nick Mihacevich, Chairman of the Board. They introduced PDA’s keynote speaker, Dan Thurmon. Dan is a teacher of peak performance, an author of impactful books and presentations, and a lifelong student of success, happiness, and achievement. He is on a mission to encourage attendees’ uniqueness and contributions; to discover a sense of purpose and greatness; and to have meaning at work and in life. The attendees were truly engaged with his tumbling, juggling and other tricks to highlight his points! Just ask Suzanne V – she now knows how to juggle!
For the remainder of the day, and throughout the subsequent days of the meeting, PDA Members and Suppliers had a chance to meet individually and in group sessions to collaborate and learn about new offerings and discuss business opportunities and issues.
On Tuesday afternoon, 48 of our Members and Suppliers took a break from meetings to participate in our annual charity golf tournament.
