Inside Our Video Series: Every Box Has a Story

At PDA, Every Box Has a Story. Many of these stories start with imagination and come to fruition through ingenuity, tenacity, and dedication to working as a team.

Our intention with “Every Box Has a Story” is to encourage all to consider the moments in our lives where packaging has an impact. We set out to bring the box to life: to give boxes unforgettable and meaningful stories.

Boxes are a mechanism to transport goods, but their utility doesn’t stop there.  Adults and children alike find new purposes for boxes everyday. They not only make our lives easier, but in many cases they make our lives possible.

EVERY BOX HAS A STORY: GROWING UP

The stories in the video include: (1) an expecting mother receiving a box of clothes and toys for her baby boy; (2) the same boy at 4-years-old, experiencing the joy of combining boxes with imagination; (3) the boy again at 8-years-old, using boxes to learn and prepare for a school science project; (4) at 13-years-old we see the boy growing into a new phase of his life: his teen years; (5) and at 18-years-old, as he uses boxes to lighten the burden of packing and ease the transition to college.

EVERY BOX HAS A STORY: LIFE’S MILESTONES

This video depicts the emotional experience that is created on moving day. As the parents of daughter, Nya, move rugs, mattresses and a truck-load of boxes, Nya’s interest and enthusiasm about moving begins to shift to sadness because she feels left-out and isolated. In an effort to regain her parents attention and feel connection within her family, Nya constructs a bright, colorful house out of left-over boxes.

EVERY BOX HAS A STORY: THE LAST BELL

Last Bell highlights our growing awareness that we have a responsibility to build a sense of trust, community, and connection. We’re able to see a first-hand account of an emotional journey that is witnessed by boxes. The one-minute video captures a moment in a retiring teacher’s life, showing his alienation during his transition, disdain for his coworkers, longing for an enduring impact, and joy over his students’ warmth and generosity. The boxes in the classroom hold his memories and belongings, while the box outside of the classroom holds the gifts and cards from his students. This further emphasizes the juxtaposition that is consuming his life. The boxes also surround him in a way that symbolizes the protection created by boxes.

EVERY BOX HAS A STORY: LIFE’S CELEBRATIONS

This short video depicts a family celebrating a little girl’s birthday; we quickly learn that her father is in the military and may not make it home for her special day. While we often see many boxes in these special moments, this day required just one very large box to deliver her most important gift. There are many moments in our lives that have an ability to shape our path and change our perspective – many of these moments: delivered in boxes.

EVERY BOX HAS A STORY: REACHING FOR SUCCESS

The short video depicts a busy architect working at an at-home office space. His interested son seen next, carefully studying his father’s ever move. Wanting to be just like his dad, the child makes his own architectural plans and uses craft supplies – namely, corrugated boxes – to construct his masterpiece. It goes without saying that this touching snippet encourages us to slow down and appreciate the small moments in our lives and appreciate the time that we are able to spend with one another.
