In Packaging, PDA Stories, News & Events

The packaging industry is expecting another year of growth and change for 2023. At PDA we track the most popular trends and make our best educated guesses on what to expect in the future. From design to automation (and everything in between), we’re predicting a busy year for packaging. Here’s our top predictions for 2023.

Sustainability

For years we have watched sustainability become increasingly important for brands. As the year gets started, we’re experiencing a tough economy, so consumers (and brands) will have to decide where they will still make sustainable choices and where they need to sacrifice. Making sustainable options more affordable will likely be a trend we see in 2023.

Simplified Design and Packaging

In effort to save costs, brands will likely simplify their packaging even more. Consumers have shown that they don’t like over packaged products so it makes sense to simplify what goes in the box and save costs for both the consumer and the brand. We also anticipate more simplified packaging designs across the board.

Automation

Not surprisingly, we will continue to see growth in automation in warehouses. It has become increasingly affordable for companies to integrate automated equipment in their warehouses, plus it saves on labor costs, so we don’t see this changing in 2023. We anticipate that more companies will use automated equipment and find more opportunities to bring equipment into their warehouses.
