In Packaging

How did you get started at New Tech and tell us about your current role?

I started at New-Tech as a sales rep in 2017 and in 2019 moved into the VP of Business Development role.  I thoroughly enjoy my current role as I get to work alongside all the sales reps, collaborate with existing customers, develop new business, build stronger relationships with suppliers, and influence the strategic growth and progression of New-Tech Packaging.

What motivated you to pursue leadership?

I think at my very core I find fulfillment and purpose in being an influencer.  This can be in people, culture, strategic growth, and even in family and friendships.  There are lots of amazing leaders, but I want to have real impact and influence on others and in what I invest my time in.

What is your favorite part about your job today?

Marketing – I am not an expert in marketing, but I am currently tackling this area within New-Tech.  It is challenging but so rewarding.  I’m learning a ton from those that are experts and am hoping that it creates a long-term impact to New-Tech.

What does it mean to you to be the first woman to hold the chairman position at Packaging Distributors of America?

I think what excites me most is to see the progression of PDA.  Since I began attending meetings in 2019, it’s exciting to see all the changes that have taken place and how passionate everyone is to make sure it is a valuable organization to both members and suppliers.  Being the first woman to hold the chairman position shows that our members are forward thinking & progressive, and that makes me really proud.

In what ways do you hope to inspire other women in the industry to pursue leadership positions?

There are a ton of women (suppliers and members) that are influential within PDA and I am proud to be a part of that group of women!  I would hope just the mere fact that we have elected a woman in the chairman role encourages other woman to not let the stereotype of “that’s just the way it’s always been,” be a deterrent and to continue pushing forward for whatever career or life goals they might have.

What advice do you have for women who are aspiring to earn leadership roles like yourself?

Learn from each other and never be afraid to ask for the role you want.  More companies than ever before in history are looking to move more woman into leadership roles to create more diversity and because they realize the benefits that having a woman in a leadership role can bring.  Remember it’s your contribution that counts, not your chromosomes.
